This one-day back-to-school event at Wiley G. Thomas Stadium provides backpacks and school supplies to families in need. This year’s event will be a unique drive through experience where families stay in their cars and drive past various booths to get their supplies and information from the many booths set up along the route.
GC is setting up a booth for REFRESH and you are invited to be a part. If you would like to SERVE at the GC booth, you can do that here.
There are also opportunities to help the REFRESH staff by signing up for one of the following areas. You can do that by signing up here.
Volunteer shifts are short 2 1/2 – 3 hours and there be breaks for volunteers. Volunteers must be 14 years and older (ages 14-17 must have an adult present).
All County Orders will be observed including wearing masks and social distancing. Volunteer hospitality and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
Relay Crew – working as a team to load students backpacks, school supplies and food
Stop Watcher – check attendees arrival times
Interpreter – help translate Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese or French
Stockers – for backpacks, school supplies and fresh produce
Traffic Flow – directing cars in line
First Aid – must be CPR & First Aid
Water Runners – keep everyone hydrated
Car Stoppers – direct cars at check in
Greeters – Welcome attendees
VOLUNTEER SHIFTS & DUTIES
BLUE ZONE SHIFTS 7:00am – 10:45am OR 10:30am – 2:00pm
PIT CREW – (GREAT FOR SMALL GROUPS!) Work on a team of 6 to load cars with schools supplies, backpacks and fresh produce.
RED ZONE SHIFTS 7:30am – 11:15am OR 11:00am – 2:00pm
CAR PREP ATTENDANTS and CAR PREP ASSISTANTS Prep the cars by writing a grid for supplies on the windshield.
ORANGE ZONE SHIFT 7:30am – 11:15am OR 11:00am – 2:00pm
CHECK IN CREW – These volunteers check their time of arrival, MUST USE OWN PHONE & BE TECH SAVVY (prior training is required).
GREETERS – TRAFFIC FLOW DIRECTORS – WATER RUNNERS
INTERPRETERS – SPANISH, ARABIC, VIETNAMESE & FRENCH
