Baptism

Summary

Congratulations on your decision to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Your decision to establish a relationship with Christ is the most important one of your life. Following your salvation experience, the next step of obedience is baptism. Even though we are not saved by being baptized, it is a symbol of what the Lord has done for us. Therefore baptism is a testimony to the world of your choice to live for Jesus and not for yourself.

What is Baptism at Glenview?

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’s Supper.

Children and Baptism

Before children can be baptized, as a church we believe we have the responsibility to disciple them and help them grow in their new relationship with the Lord. Shema Classes is the New Christians Class designed specifically for children to attend with their parents. It is offered every quarter at9:00am for 3rd – 6th graders, and 10:40am for Kindergarten – 2nd Grade. Before a child is baptized, it is our desire to disciple them in their faith. The Shema Classes cover topics such as: Understanding Salvation, Baptism, The Lord’s Supper, and The Makings of a Disciple. Each of these topics is covered in each of the weeks.

If you would like to sign your child to attend one of these classes, please contact the church office: 817-281-3361.
